Exporting, Importing or Upgrading Libraries

You can import, export, or upgrading libraries. For background information, see Libraries Export/Import and Library Configurator Workspaces.

Prerequisites

  • You are trained and authorized to work with system libraries.
  • System Manager is in Engineering mode.
  • System Browser is in Management View.

Export a Library

You can export a library of a Desigo CC project to a GMS file (a file with extension .gms), for example, to reuse that same configuration in another project.

  1. In System Browser, select Project > System Settings > Libraries.
  1. In the Library Configurator tab, from the list of all the libraries available in the project, select the library you want to export.
NOTE: It is currently recommended to export only one library per GMS file.
  1. Click Export.
  1. In the Export Libraries dialog box:
    a. Select the target directory.
    b. Enter a file name.
    c. Click Save.
  • The GMS file containing the selected library is exported to a file with extension .gms, which is saved in the chosen directory of the file system.
You can now reuse the exported library in another project. See Import a Library or Upgrade a Library, below.

Import a Library

If you have a GMS file (a file with extension .gms) containing a previously configured, discipline-specific library required for a site, you can import this library to add it to a Desigo CC project.

  1. In System Browser, select Project > System Settings > Libraries.
  • The Library Configurator tab displays a list of all the libraries available in the system.
  1. Click Import.
  1. In the Import Libraries dialog box, select the .gms file containing the library you want to import. You can also press CTRL and click to select multiple .gms files.
  1. Click Open.
  • The system checks the dependencies of the library in the selected file. This might take a few minutes.
  1. If some dependencies are found to be missing from the Libraries root, one of the following Import Dependency Warnings may display:
  • The missing dependencies are available in the project libraries repository. Click Yes to import the library along with its dependencies.
  • The missing dependencies are not available. In this case the import cannot proceed. Click Close to quit.
  1. If the library in the GMS file already exists in the project, one of the following will happen:
  • If the version in the GMS file is older, a message box informs you that the import cannot proceed.
  • If the version in the GMS file is the same, a message box asks you whether to overwrite the existing library or skip the import.
  • If the version in the GMS file is newer, the existing library is upgraded automatically.
  • The system begins importing the selected libraries. Check the progress bar at the bottom of the screen.
  • When the import is complete, the libraries are added to System Browser under the appropriate target level (L4-Project, L3-Country, and L2-Region) and discipline (Common, Global, and so forth).
  • If the instances being imported are already present in the system and linked to any library block, the import operation stops, and the library will not be imported. The Import Compatibility Warning dialog box displays and shows the list of all the objects.

Upgrade a Library

You can upgrade some existing libraries of a Desigo CC project to a newer version.

  • You have one or several GMS files (with extension .gms) containing the new versions of the libraries.
  1. Place the GMS files containing the new library versions together in a folder.
  1. In System Browser, select Project > System Settings > Libraries.
  1. In the Library Configurator tab, click Upgrade.
  1. In the Browse for Folder dialog box, do the following:
    a. Select the folder containing the GMS files that you want to use for the upgrade.
    b. Click OK.
  • The system scans the folder for library upgrades. Check the progress bar at the bottom of the screen. When finished, the Upgrade Libraries dialog box displays.
  1. If multiple versions of the same library display, do one of the following:
  • Select the Upgrade only newer version check box to import only the latest version.
  • Leave the check box unselected to import all the available versions of the same library.
  1. Click Yes.
  • The system checks the dependencies of the libraries to be upgraded. This might take a few minutes. Check the progress bar at the bottom of the screen.
  1. If some dependencies are found to be missing from the Libraries root, one of the following Import Dependency Warnings may display.
  • The missing dependencies are available in the project libraries repository. Click Yes to upgrade the library along with its dependencies.
  • The missing dependencies are not available. In this case the upgrade cannot proceed. The previous version of the library is kept.
  1. If a message box informs you that a library version is already present in the system, and asks if you want to overwrite it, click Yes, to overwrite the library, or No to skip the import of this library.
  • When the upgrade is complete, the System Manager status bar indicates that data was successfully saved.
