Closed Mode Installed Station

Closed mode is a special setting that you can apply to a Desigo CC station. In closed mode, the station is dedicated to running the Desigo CC client application, and the user cannot shut down Desigo CC or access the operating system functions. For instructions, see Setting Up a Closed Mode Installed Station.

Desigo CC Station Behavior in Closed Mode

  • In closed mode, when the client station boots up, the GMSDefaultUser is automatically logged on into Windows.
  • Operators cannot shut down the station or log off from the current closed-mode session. An authorized user can, however, take over the station using the Operator Switchover menu option to log on and gain access to other system functions. At that point, a logoff command will automatically re-enable the GMSDefaultUser session.
  • Setting a station to closed mode prevents operators from restarting the Desigo CC client application and applying system configuration changes that require a restart.
  • When in closed mode, the Desigo CC client application runs with the GMSDefaultUser logged on, and operators can only access Desigo CC according to the Default Users group permissions. The Windows Task Manager, Windows Taskbar, and desktop icons are unavailable. Some shortcut keys are also disabled (see Disabled Windows Shortcut Keys).

Closed mode can be applied to installed client or FEP stations. It is not recommended to enable closed mode on the Desigo CC server station.

GMSDefaultUser

The GMSDefaultUser is required for closed mode. You can create it in SMC (see Setting Up a Closed Mode Installed Station).

Make sure that the closed-mode password in SMC always matches the password of the Windows GMSDefaultUser account.

When the closed-mode user password displays in red, in SMC, this indicates that the SMC password and the GMSDefaultUser Windows account do not match. If this is the case, you must change the password in SMC, so that it matches the Windows password for the GMSDefaultUser account.

GMSDefaultUser Special Settings
1) GMSDefaultUser is a Windows user that must have read/write access rights to the [Installation Drive]:\[Installation Folder]\[Project Name] folder on the server.
Using Windows Explorer, you can enable such access in the security properties of the project folder.
For more information about folder security, refer to Windows documentation.
2) If you use a secure client/server connection, GMSDefaultUser must be included in the list of host certificate users of the project. You can configure such list in the Security expander of SMC Server.

Interaction Between Auto Logoff, Deny Logoff, and Closed Mode

Inactivity timeout and Deny logoff are separate settings that you can configure for a user, under Project > System Settings > Users.

Inactivity timeout activates automatic log off when the operator has been inactive for a certain amount of time. For instructions, see Additional User Group Administration Procedures.

Deny logoff prevents that user from manually logging off from a Desigo CC station. For instructions, see New Local User.

When auto logoff is enabled, users with the deny logoff setting will still be logged off automatically when the timeout expires. However, they will not be able to log off manually at other times.

In the case of a closed-mode station, when auto logoff happens, the operator is logged off and the GMSDefaultUser is automatically logged on.

The following table describes how the system behaves depending on the specific configuration settings.
