Importing Graphics
You can import graphic files from one project to another using one of the Consistency Checker tools's system tasks. Note, however, any folder structures you copy over to the new project, in step 1 below, will not be recognized. After you have completed the following procedure, you will only see the imported graphics in the System Browser Graphics tree.
Import Using the Consistency Checker Tool
The Consistency Checker method for importing graphics is best used for a bulk import of many graphics. In this method, you
- Copy all your graphics from the old project to the new or current project's Graphics directory.
- Run the Consistency Checker task.
- Run a Fix All on any imported graphics found by the Consistency Checker to add them to the System Browser Graphics tree.
When you use this method of importing graphics, any folder structures copied over to the project will not be replicated in the Graphics tree. You will have to recreate the folder structures in the System Browser Graphics tree---if they do not already exist---and then open each graphic in the Graphics Editor, and save them to the correct folder. Once you have saved the imported graphics to a new graphic folder, you should manually delete the copy of the graphic in the System Browser tree. Otherwise, you will have a copy of the graphic in the root of the Graphics folder and in the folder you saved the graphic to.
When using the bulk import graphics task to change the folder structure (e.g. rename a graphics folder) this can have an impact on existing links to affected graphics and on related items.
- Links: The object reference can become invalid and need to be manually corrected
- Related Items: The order of the related items can change compared to the previous order (e.g. if the order was manually changed) and the manual generated related items (source = ‘user’) are not being updated and are deleted.
Import Using Drag-and-Drop
When you use the drag-and-drop method to import your graphics into the Graphics Editor, you will manually save them to your project's Graphics folder. If you want to retain a folder structure, first create the new folder in the System Browser’s Graphics tree and then when you drag and save your graphics to the new project, you can also select the correct folder for them.
